Suzlon Energy Ltd. founder and chairman Tulsi Tanti has passed away. He died on the night of October 1, following a cardiac arrest.

A visionary and world renowned expert on clean energy, the late Mr. Tanti championed the cause of affordable and sustainable energy. He spearheaded the wind revolution in India with the founding of Suzlon Energy in 1995.

“With profound sadness, we inform you of the untimely demise of Shri Tulsi R. Tanti, the Founder, the Chairman & Managing Director, and one of the promoters of Suzlon Energy Limited on 1st October 2022. Shri Tanti suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away the same day,” the company said in a filing with stock exchanges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a tweet, said that he was “pained” by the untimely demise of Mr. Tanti, calling him a “pioneering business leader”.

His death comes at a time when the company, which is into manufacturing and servicing of wind turbines, is in the process of raising ₹1,200 crore through a rights issue.

Suzlon Group, which had got into financial difficulties following the 2008 global economic meltdown, provides a full spectrum of green power solutions. The group has a market capitalization of over $1.5 billion and an international presence across 18 countries in 6 continents.

Under Mr. Tanti’s leadership, the company established and went beyond benchmarks, emerging as a prominent player in the global renewable energy market.

He was committed to enabling energy security and affordability, whereby the benefit of clean, renewable and reliable energy reaches every sector.

In a span of 22 years, Suzlon has established a global installation of over 17 GW with over 11 GW being installed in India and over 2 GW installed in its second largest market, USA

mr. Tanti was the Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and a member of the Board of Management of TERI University, Delhi. He was conferred with numerous awards, and regarded as the ‘Wind Man of India’ and was a stalwart of the Indian and global renewable energy industry.

Tulsi Tanti was a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

“In this difficult time, the Company continues to be supported by its highly experienced board of directors and senior management who are both able and committed to take Shri Tanti’s legacy forward and realize his vision for the Company,” the company’s filing said.
